If you get caught texting while driving in Fairview Park, be prepared to pay a hefty fine!
City Council recently passed legislation that prohibits texting while driving.
"No person shall use a wireless handset to compose, send or read text messages while driving a motor vehicle in the City of Fairview Park. "Text message" means a message sent or received via a process using wireless handsets. For the purposes of this section, an e-mail shall be considered a text message."
First time offender, $100, Second time offender, $200, Third or more time offenders, $500.
According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, a texting driver is 23 times more likely to get in a crash, than a non texting driver.
