North Olmsted school changes | Schools
Changes made in the North Olmsted School District. Starting in the fall, Birch School 3rd grade will move to Maple School. Birch School will become a grade K-2 primary building. The third grade will move to Maple School, which will become a grade 3 through 6 intermediate building. The following information highlights the benefits of this plan, which will go into effect starting with the 2013-2014 school year: By serving both the 3rd and 4th grade in the same building, we will be able to provide extra help for students who may need it, and reduce the possibility of having to retain students in reading as a result of the new Third Grade Reading Guarantee legislation. Will eliminate crowded classrooms and lack of space at Birch Primary. Will create smaller class sizes by increasing the number of sections at each grade level at Birch. Will provide for the new full day Kindergarten program The current Birch second graders will be transitioned to Maple for their third grade school year, and will be able to stay at Maple for four years - through sixth grade. The transition plan includes a scheduled visit and orientation at Maple School with Principal Jim Alexandrou. The goal is always to maximize academic growth for all students and make sure they have the best opportunity for success.
