Win the Senior Championship golf title! | Sports & Recreation
Cleveland Metroparks is looking for the best senior golfers in the Greater Cleveland area!
Linksters, ages 50 and over, can test their skills against other golfers to compete in the 9th Annual "Senior Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship" event on Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18 at Big Met Golf Course in Fairview Park.
Last year, Norton Brick's 2-year run as the Senior Amateur Champion was broken as Steve Blackburn rode a 3 under par front nine to a second day 69 for a two day total of 3 under par 141 in the senior open division.
Mark Borlin of Solon came in second one shot back at under par 142. Dave Donofrio of Fairview Park shot a steady 73 - 73, 146 to win the 60 to 69-year-old division and Ward Watkins from North Ridgeville shot 75 - 77 for 152 to win the 70 and over division.
The two-day, 36-hole stroke play event is open to any amateur golfer of any gender or residence, who is age 50 or older, with recommended current handicaps of 8.4 or less to reasonably compete.
The event tees off on July 17 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and continues on July 18. In all rounds, male contestants will play from the men's tees and females will play from the forward tees. USGA rules apply for all play.
All ages compete for the Senior Championship title. There are also separate prizes for players, ages 60 to 69 (Super Senior Division), and 70 and older (Super Senior Golden Division).
Caddies and spectators are welcome.
A $75 entry fee and advanced registration are required. Greens fees are part of the entry fee. Carts are optional and not included in the fee, but can be rented the day of the tournament.
Registration is required by Sunday, July 7. Space is limited.
